Apple Remote Access for Mac OS 8.1 - 9.2 Dial-up Access

  1. From the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and choose Remote Access.

  2. In the Name box, type your Visionet username (usually starts with VO or VN).
  3. In the Password box, type your password.

Note: Your password is case sensitive! Make sure CAPS LOCK is off when typing it.

  4. Check the box next to Save password.
  5. In the Telephone number field, type your access number. A complete list of access number can be found on our Dial up Numbers page.

    Note:

    • Check with your local telephone company to make sure that the access number you choose is a local toll-free call.
    • When you enter the access number, type it exactly as you would dial it from your home phone.
    • Do not include a 1 or the area code unless you have to dial it to make a local call from your home telephone.
    • If you are dialing from a hotel, office, or other phone system that requires you to dial a digit such as 9 to get an outside line, insert that number before the access number.
    • To disable call waiting while using the internet, insert the call waiting defeat code (usually *70) before the access number. Note: only insert this code if you have call waiting on the line you will connect with. Check with your phone company to determine the code to use for your line.
  6. Click the Options button.

  7. Click on the Protocol tab.
  8. Click the arrow box on the Use Protocol pop-up list and choose PPP.
  9. Check the box next to Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications.
  10. Check the box next to Allow error correction and compression in modem.
  11. Check the box next to Use TCP header compression.
  12. Click the OK button.

  13. Close the Remote Access window.
  14. Click the Save button.

  15. From the Apple menu, click Control Panel, and choose TCP/IP.

  16. Click the arrow box on the Connect via pop-up list and choose PPP.
  17. Click the arrow box on the Configure pop-up list and choose Using PPP Server.
