Windows 2000 Dial-Up Connection Setup

1. Go to the taskbar and start up the Control Panel. 

   

   You'll see the following: 

   
   
   

2. Double click on Network and Dial-up Connections.

   You'll see the following:

   

3. Double click on Make New Connection. You should then see the following Network Connection Wizard.

   

4. Left click on Next. You will then see the following. Select the first option, Dial-up to private network, so that your screen looks like the one below.

   

5. Left click on Next. You will then see the following. Fill in the phone number that you wish to connect to. For a complete list of dial-up access numbers click here here
   Note:
   • Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the access number you choose is a local toll-free call.
   • When you enter the access number, type it exactly as you would dial it from your home phone.
   • Do not include a 1 or the area code unless you have to dial it to make a local call from your home telephone.
   • If you are dialing from a hotel, office, or other phone system that requires you to dial a digit such as 9 to get an outside line, insert that number before the access number.
   • To disable call waiting while using the internet, insert the call waiting defeat code (usually *70) before the access number. Note: only insert this code if you have call waiting on the line you will connect with. Check with your phone company to determine which code to use for your line.

   

6. Left click on Next. You should then see the following:

   

   You may select either For all users or Only for myself. In either case the connection will work.

7. Left click on Next. You should see the following:

   

8. You will now create a name for your new dial-up connection icon. The box under "Type the name you want to use for this connection:" is highlighted. Type "Visionet Online Services".

   Check the box next to "Add a shortcut to my desktop". Left click on Finish. You should then see the following:

   

9. Enter your username (usually starts with VO or VN) and your password. Click DIAL to connect.

Congratulations! You have successfully set up an Internet connection to Visionet. To more fully maximize your Internet experience, we suggest you use the Visionet Set-up software.
